gone, daddy gone

we received our first significant snowfall yesterday afternoon: approximately 6 inches or so. We (my coworker I carpool with and I) left work early in an attempt to avoid the crazys that can't drive in slick conditions (it once took me nearly 3 hours to get home from work because of snow).

Things were going to plan and we were on the home stretch when I ran over something in the snow. I think it was a glass bottle or something. In any event, something got lodged in my right front tire and we heard a load thumpthumpthumpthump for about a mile or so. The truck wasn't driving any differently so I wasn't overly concerned at that point. Then whatever was lodged worked itself free and the sound stopped. The truck was still driving fine but we decided to stop and check things out just in case. We made it to a Walgreens parking lot.

The tire was noticeably low at that point and we could hear air escaping. that was trouble. Despite being only a couple miles away from my house we opted to change the tire anyway. In the cold and snow. fun.

having my friend there really helped though. If I was by myself I might have tried to make it home which would have been problematic since we got stopped by an accident about a mile down the road.

But the story doesn't end there.

This morning I was getting ready to go out and get the tire fixed when I realized that my wedding ring was missing. it was one of those 'Oh Shit!' moments where the adrenaline starts rushing. Bam. At first i thought it had come off in a glove after shoveling snow. But it wasn't there. Then I remembered dropping something in the snow while changing the tire. I had miscellaneous pieces of the wheel and jack on my person at the time so I assumed it was part of that. But I now believe it was my wedding ring that had slipped off my wet finger.

At the time there was several inches of snow on the ground so I thought whatever it was was gone because I wouldn't be able to find it without really searching for it. and we were really hustling to get the tire changed at that point. Also, I didn't have gloves. so I let it be.

So after taking my truck in to get the tire fixed (which didn't happen. The tire needs to be replaced and they had to order it) I went back to walgreens in an attempt to find the ring. Unfortunately the lot was plowed so it could have been pushed anywayere. I left my name and number with the store manager but there's little hope of finding it now.

So I'm pretty down. I know it's just a piece of metal but it's a small part of my life that I never get back. I try not to think of the symbolism. I feel pretty naked without it as well. what a bummer.
